MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a non-invasive medical scanning procedure. It uses magnets and radio waves to capture inner images of the body that doesn’t involve cuts and incisions of any kind. The 3D MRI technology is a modern breakthrough that can provide much more benefits for the scan; it provides much clearer information on certain medical conditions and also facilitates a 3D reconstruction of certain parts of the body for a better understanding of the medical condition and its conclusive diagnosis.

MRI (3D Tesla) Whole Abdomen with Contrast surveys any uncommon results in liver limit tests or kidney work tests to examine the justification for any stomach anguish or augmenting. It is a sans radiation test that makes different low down pictures using solid appeal and radio waves.

The scan helps in the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of any abdominal problems caused as a result of an injury, infection, or some other condition.

The MRI can be used to evaluate certain lymph nodes and specific functions of organs within.

This non-invasive study clearly shows blood vessels within the abdomen and helps to assess the blood flow. It can also reveal any arterial obstructions and enlarged organs in the body that might have been causing serious pain to the patient.

The magnetic resonance scan can be used for the diagnosis of certain abdominal growths. It can clearly distinguish tumors from normal tissues of the body and in cases of cancer, it can provide accurate information on the stage, size, extent, and the spread of the cancer cells within the abdomen.

How to Prepare?

There are no special preparations for the exam and no dietary considerations are required unless a clean colon is required for any test. A laxative or enema may be used for such tests.

Since an MRI machine involves magnets in the scanning procedure, it is most important that the patient removes any type of jewellery or other wearable articles that could cause problems during the scan. Such articles can not only affect the effectiveness of the scan but also cause a safety hazard for the patient. Any type of earrings, watches, hairpins, or dentures needs to be removed before getting into the machine. For the same reason, the patient must inform the doctor in case they have any metallic implants within the body.

Once all set for the exam, the patient will be asked to lie down on their backside. The technician may provide a pillow and a blanket for comfort. After that, the table on which the patient is lying down is moved inside a large round machine.

During the scanning procedure, it is normal for the machine to make a loud thumping noise, the scan technician might ask you to lie still and hold your breath during this phase for a successful scan.

The process takes around 30-90 minutes to be completed; the patient will not feel anything during the procedure.

For some tests, a type of non-toxic contrast dye is injected into the blood for the purpose of getting a clear MRI image of the blood vessels.

After the test, the patient should be able to resume normal activities immediately afterward.

When Do I Get Results?

It could take approximately 8-48 hours to get the results depending on the type of scan performed. It can take some time for the radiologist to review the images. In case any abnormalities are found in the scan the patient might be asked to undergo another MRI scan for the sake of being conclusive. The doctor can then go through the scan report for an appropriate diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan.

Are There Any Risks Involved?

A magnetic resonance scan is a painless and non-invasive procedure which means there are no cuts and incisions of any kind involved for the process of the scan. There are no health risks associated with the scan itself as it uses low-power radio waves for the scan and not ionizing radiation like that which is utilized in X-rays and CT scans.

The scanning procedure is painless itself but the patient might experience some discomfort since they have to lie down in a position for the period that could extend to about 90 minutes as per required by the scan to complete.

Patients who have metal implants could experience trouble in the scanning procedure since the machine utilizes magnets for the scan.

Patient might experience allergic reaction to the contrast dye that is needed in some scans for the assessment of the blood vessels in the body. Its recommended to consult your doctor beforehand.
